Acuña, Mexico/ Del Rio, Texas – Arkansas Delta rice farmers sent truckloads of rice to farmers in Acuña to ensure that they could get through the winter. We have sent much needed clothing, toys, school supplies, and 200,000 servings of rice to the U.S. boarder city of Del Rio, Texas.
More recently Every child Is Ours traveled to Acuña, Mexico where teams of teachers from Whitefield, New Hampshire, Berlin, New Hampshire, Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Newport, Arkansas were partnered with an individual school and immersed in that school’s culture. They brought tremendous amounts of school supplies for the Mexican students and teachers. Each school received a computer and an internet connection from the Every Child Is Ours Foundation.
In May of 2006, sister city Tuckerman, Arkansas hosted traditional dancers and young professionals from Acuña in celebration of this long-term project and ongoing relationship. They performed with the Tuckerman Music Club both at the Arkansas Capitol in Little Rock and in Tuckerman’s community auditorium.
The pictures below will give you an idea of the conditions of the schools in Acuña, Mexico.
